Drive To Succeed Same No Matter What Language

Pedro Jimenez hopes to play football some day for the New York Giants. For now, though, the seventh-grader is concentrating on just making it through each day at Asbury Park Middle School. His English vocabulary is only a few words.

Pedro, whose family moved to New Jersey from Mexico a year ago, was one of 250 seventh-graders who attended-an assembly held last week for Hispanic Heritage Month…

A speaker at the assembly, personal coach Elaine Hoyo of Aberdeen, told the children if they believe in themselves, they can realize all of their dreams, regardless of their background.
“You can be, have and do anything you want,” Hoyo said.

Emanuel Ramirez, another seventh-grader who was born in Mexico, said he dreams of becoming a lawyer. The message he took from the assembly was, “Step up! Your dreams can come true,” he said.
